The part name leaves room for interpretation
Take a PVC adapter: the thread might be inside or outside, and the other end still needs a description. Send the mating connection details with your drawing or existing-part reference. A valve request also needs its configuration. A union fitting and a union ball valve belong on separate lines when both are needed.
For a custom part, mark the proposed change on the drawing. Keep the original reference with it so the supplier can see what stays the same. Quantities against each version make the request easier to answer than a total for an unspecified assortment.

Read the reply against your brief
A reply that says “standard” or “same as the photo” may still leave an open question. Which connection is being offered? Does the drawing describe that configuration? Are the requested documents available for that item? Put any difference beside the relevant line before comparing the price with another quotation.
Keep the supplier’s answer with your request. It should leave the buyer and project reviewer with the same description of the product, order options and delivery proposal. You can carry your catalog shortlist into the contact page and add the brief there.
